In a dramatic rescue operation on the Zugspitze, two German climbers had to be recovered at night. The two men belonged to a group of five who had tackled the popular mountain tour on Pentecost Sunday. While three members had preceded it, a 34-year-old waited for his 39-year-old companion, who comes from Rhineland-Palatinate. The 34-year-old, whose place of residence is located in Baden-Württemberg, was faced with strong symptoms in the evening and asked for help because he had no cell phone to make an emergency call independently. An hour later, two hikers heard his calls and then alerted the mountain rescue.
In the meantime, the 39-year-old was also no longer able to continue the way, but was able to inform his location about WhatsApp and inform the rescue workers. These rose the older man with the help of a helicopter and flew him to the hospital. The other three companions quickly noticed the lack of the 34-year-old, which started the search for him. The emergency services finally heard his call for help at the blocked Bayernsteig and were able to reach him after several hours. He was very cooled, but luckily unharmed. The mountain rescue describes the use as very challenging, especially because of the winter conditions and the restricted view on the Zugspitze, which is about 2,962 meters high.
