Ellwangen is waiting for glass fiber: Citizens frustrated with the expansion delay!
In Ellwangen, the core city continues to wait for the expansion of the fiber optic network, while it has already been successfully implemented in smaller suburbs. The company is to be provided in the core city by the company our green glass fiber (UGG), but there was no planned information event at the beginning of the year, which leaves ambiguities among the citizens. Dr. Anselm Grupp, spokesman for the city of Ellwangen, informed that no new appointment for these events has so far been set. However, the city is still in exchange with UGG, especially with regard to planning topics, which are also important in the context of the upcoming State Garden Show 2026.
The city of Ellwangen confirms that it holds on UGG as an expansion partner. The city itself is currently not planned, although there is an old master planning. It is emphasized that the city does not want to intervene in any market -driven competition as long as other providers already provide gigabitable care. The city will only become active in the event of a failed self -economic expansion, supported by funding programs of the federal and state governments.
fiber optic availability in sub -locations
In numerous smaller suburbs such as Stocken, Haisterhofen, Holbach, Killingen, Dettenroden, Hirlbach and other regions, fiber optic is already available, whereby the expansion was financed by public funding. This was carried out by the district and the network is operated by Netcom BW. Special mention deserve the Neunheim industrial area and the Wannenfeld 1 new development area, where the fiber optic network was laid by Netcom.
However, there are currently no expansion plans in Rindelbach and Schrezheim as part of the white or gray spots. In Röhlingen, on the other hand, the southern part is opened up as part of the White Spots program. Other areas such as Röhlingen Nord, Pfahlheim and Rattstadt are in the planning of the gray spots program, the graduation of which will be planned by the end of 2029 at the latest.
funding and expansion goals
With regard to the Internet connections in Ellwangen, it is advisable for citizens to check the speed of their connections via providers such as Telekom, Netcom BW and others. Slow internet connections could be due to inadequate tariffs or because there is a residential area in a so -called "white spot" where the service is not sufficient. The aim of the broadband expansion is to ensure that sub -supplied areas achieve download speeds of at least 50 Mbit/second.
BUND and Land support this expansion with considerable funding of up to 90 % of the costs, with the city of Ellwangen wearing 10 %. The political goal is a nationwide connection to gigabitable fiber optic network until 2025, with the first construction phases already being completed.
The Ellwangen Stadtwerke cooperate closely with the civil engineering office for the construction management of the still upcoming sections 3 and 4 of the expansion, which have a total of 24 km of route for around 430 households. These construction phases are to be completed by summer 2024. The standard procedure "Fiber to the Building (FTT-B)" is used, which enables a direct connection of every household to the fiber optic network. This allows the bundled use of telephony, television, internet and smart home.
A superordinate goal of the federal government is to ensure a nationwide fiber optic infrastructure in Germany by 2030. The transfer of responsibility on telecommunications companies takes place in gigabit promotion 2.0, which is intended to support areas in particular in which an economic expansion cannot be feasible. Applications for funding can be made by municipalities and public legal providers. This is intended to address the most urgent needs in the supply infrastructure.
