The focus on energy transition: Brandenburg Energy Day on June 11, 2025!

On June 6, 2025, there will be an important event to promote the energy transition in Brandenburg. The 25th Brandenburg Energy Day will be opened on June 11, 2025 by Minister of Energy Daniel Keller. The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. at the Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) Cottbus-Senftenberg, specifically in the Central Campus Cottbus, Konrad-Wachsmann-Allee 3, 03046 Cottbus. Keller is accompanied by the BTU President Prof. Dr. Gesine Grande and Jens Warnken, the President of the Cottbus Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The organization of the event is located in the hands of the Ministry of Economics, Work, Energy and Climate Protection Brandenburg as well as the Chambers of Industry and Commerce in the state and the Berlin-Brandenburg cluster.

The agenda of the energy day provides for an extensive program. After registration and registration at 9 a.m., a greeting at 10 a.m. offers specialist impulses and discussions about the topic of the energy transition. A special highlight is the awarding of the energy efficiency prices of the state of Brandenburg at 10:45 a.m. This is followed by a panel discussion that deals with the question, "are we on course at the energy transition in Brandenburg?". The lunch break offers visitors the opportunity to explore the accompanying specialist exhibition.

specialist forums and expert discussions

In the afternoon there are four parallel specialist forums, each deal with various aspects of the energy transition:

  • Forum 1: Energy transition through energy efficiency
  • Forum 2: Energy transition through renewable energies
  • Forum 3: Energy transition through sector coupling
  • Forum 4: Digitization for the energy transition (EIZ-Fachforum)

In parallel to the energy day, the annual conference of the Cottbus (EIZ) energy innovation center will take place. The EIZ sees itself as a platform for researching the energy transition at theoretical and applied level and promotes over 70 scientists at the BTU. It currently has around 50 partners from the areas of business, politics and science who work together on innovative solutions.

The context of the energy transition

The Brandenburg Energy Day is part of a larger trend towards renewable energies in Germany. In 2024, 22.4% of the gross intention consumption were covered by renewable energies, which represents an increase of 0.8 percentage points compared to the previous year. The aim by 2030 is to gain 41% of gross energy consumption from renewable sources. The generation of electricity from renewable energies increased in 2023 with 273.2 billion kWh, whereby the wind energy made the biggest contribution.

Progress in the production of renewable energies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is also significant. In 2024, around 256 million tons of CO₂ equivalents could be avoided, 80% of them from the generation of electricity from renewable sources. These developments are essential for the long -term goal of achieving the federal government's climate goals and successfully implementing the energy transition.

Detailed information about the event and registration will be provided shortly. Interested companies and institutions that deal with energy topics are welcome to take part and to discuss their contribution.
