Family war in court: alcohol, arguments and a children's bike!

Liebigstraße, 95032 Hof, Deutschland - Last Monday evening, June 2, 2025, a dispute between three family members in Hof escalated. As Infranken, the incident occurred in Liebigstraße, as two men at the age of 54 and 29 and a 32-year-old family member met. The 29-year-old faced a violent attack by the two older men, which further fueled the situation.

In the course of the argument, the 29-year-old threw a children's bike on the 54-year-old, which led to minor injuries in both men. However, medical care was not necessary. The police were called and was able to separate the participants. At this point it was also found that the men were partially alcoholic. Investigations into dangerous bodily harm were initiated.

domestic violence in focus

The incidents in Hof throw a light on a bigger problem: the spread of domestic violence. Every day, over 700 people in Germany are affected by domestic violence, and every second day the tragic event brings with it that a woman dies through partnership violence. According to a current position of the Federal Government experienced domestic violence in 2023 256,276, which corresponds to an increase of 6.5 % compared to the previous year.

The Violence Protection Act in Germany offers protection for victims of domestic violence by giving family courts the opportunity to ban perpetrators of entering the shared apartment. In addition to approximation bans, these protective measures also include the prohibition of contacts via telephone or social media. Injuries to these protective arrangements can be punished with a prison sentence of up to two years. These legal framework is of great importance for those affected to apply for civil protection if necessary, such as Police-Advice explained.

The fact that almost two thirds of cases of domestic violence affect partnership is particularly alarming, while a third represents internal -family violence. The majority of the victims are women while the perpetrators are often male. Further measures are apparently requested by planned additions to the Violence Protection Act, which are intended to include anti-violence training for perpetrators and electronic ankle cuffs.

These worrying statistics illustrate the urgent need for action in society. The police are obliged to offer protection affected people, and in an emergency there are numerous help telephone numbers available, such as the number against grief for children and adolescents or the help telephone "Violence against women". These areas are important contact points for people who suffer from domestic violence and need help.
