Peaceful protest in Reutlingen: 750 demonstrate for Germany!

Reutlingen, Deutschland - Around 750 people took part in a protest of the alliance “Together for Germany” in Reutlingen on Saturday, May 31, 2025. This event was part of a nationwide series of demonstrations that took place in all 16 federal states to articulate different social concerns. The protest march began shortly before 3 p.m. at the Reutlinger Stadthalle and moved through the city center. There was a significant encounter with around 500 counter -demonstrators who spoke out against the rally.

The alliance "Together for Germany" describes itself as non -party and pursues demands such as nationwide border controls and the end of further financial support for Ukraine. These concerns are part of a wider range of political positions, which is represented by various extremist and non-extremist actors, as the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior found. The counter -demonstration was organized, among other things, by the party DIE LINKE and the alliance "Together and Solidarize against Right", which occurred with slogans such as "Breaking the right wave" and "Block Nazis".

peace despite tension

Despite the sometimes tense mood, the situation remained peaceful according to a police spokesman. The police had mobilized a large contingent in the three -digit range to keep the groups at a distance and ensure that there were no violent clashes. Several blockade attempts from counter -demonstrators against the route of the protest march of the alliance meant that the route had to be changed at short notice. Nevertheless, the demonstrations were characterized by a clearly perceptible presence and a variety of opinions that were heard in public.

In Reutlingen, around 1,000 participants from the right spectrum were expected, while according to forecasts, the counter -demonstrators should exceed the number of 5,000. Similar protests also took place in other cities such as Balingen and Karlsruhe, where the police were prepared for any conflicts with increased use. In Karlsruhe, for example, around 3,000 counter -demonstrators were expected, while a few hundred people had registered in the same urban area to demonstrate under the same motto.

context of protest movements

These events build on a long history of protest movements in Germany, which goes back to 1945. Scientific studies have shown that protests often emerged as an expression of social deficits and disadvantaged needs. Historically, protests were an important means of making social, political and economic problems visible. From the peace movement of the 1980s to the current arguments about fundamental rights and social justice, the right to expression remains a central demand that combines different population groups.

The demonstrations of May 31, 2025 once again illustrate the importance of protest as a means of social articulation. It remains to be seen how these movements will continue to shape the political landscape in Germany.
