Greta Thunberg breaks up with activists: Help for Gaza in danger!
Gaza, Palästina - On June 2, 2025, Greta Thunberg and eleven other human rights activists on board the “Madleen” ship put from Sicily to Gaza. With this trip you pursue the goal of breaking the Israeli sea blockade and bringing urgently needed humanitarian aid to the crisis region. The campaign is organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and is intended to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, which is affected by almost two million Palestinians.
In addition to Thunberg, Liam Cunningham, known from "Game of Thrones", and EU MP Rima Hassan, who was previously banished from Israel, are among the prominent passengers. The activists are committed to reaching the Gazas coast in seven days if they are not stopped on their route. With this trip, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition plans the second attempt within two months after a first attempt had to be stopped in May because the ship "Conscience" was attacked by Israeli drones in international waters before Malta. The damage was significant and the FFC blames Israel for the incident.Current situation in Gaza
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains extremely tense. According to reports from the World Health Organization and other UN organizations, the region is affected by chaos, looting and significant restrictions that severely hinder the aid deliveries. Despite a partial relaxation of the blockade in May, Gaza is on the verge of a famine. During this time there were chaotic scenes at auxiliary distribution stations that led to at least three deaths and many injuries.
In addition, the planned support from a new foundation, the "Gaza Humanitrian Foundation" (GHF), is viewed critically. This foundation wants to distribute relief supplies in Gaza without having access to Hamas. However, there are concerns about the security of the civilian population on the way to the distribution centers. Unicef warns of the dangers that these plans bring, especially for old, disabled and sick people who may not be able to reach the distribution centers.
press conference and international reaction
At a press conference, Greta Thunberg emotionally expressed the importance of maintaining the pressure on the international community. She emphasized that the situation in Gaza could not be ignored. The Israeli government, meanwhile, rejects allegations of genocide and plans to tighten its offensive against Hamas, while the USA and other states are still critical of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In view of this situation, many organizations and individuals are concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The increasing pressure on the civilian population and the effects of the blockade raise questions about the effectiveness of the current auxiliary initiatives. It becomes clear that a solution is urgently needed to relieve the suffering of people in Gaza.Details | |
