Rostock plans 60 new apartments at the harbor: parking lot is revived!

The Hanseatic city of Rostock plans a comprehensive urban development, which includes the construction of 60 new apartments in the city center. These apartments are to be built in a currently used parking lot near the harbor market, between L22/on the beach, Kanonsberg and Fischerstraße. Loud Ostsee-Zeitung an L-shaped apartment building is built with a length of 55 meters each. The height of the building will reach five floors, four of them to the beach and one in the attic, whereby the alignment takes place in the north-south direction.

The responsible institution for this project is the Rostock Society for Urban Renewal, Urban Development and Housing (RGS), which has been a partner of the city in these matters for 30 years. An investor competition to plan the building construction is scheduled to start at the end of June. The 100 parking spaces that the area offers are currently used as a parking lot, which eliminates the completion of the residential project. To compensate for this loss, a new parking garage with 250 parking spaces for residents and the new residential units is planned.

additional urban development measures

The city of Rostock also plans a variety of further construction work. The construction of a new folk theater will result in the loss of 90 parking spaces for cars and 32 for buses, but receives an underground car park that is supposed to create additional parking spaces. In particular, the search for an additional parking garage in the area of the northern old town and the urban harbor is considered important.

The city administration plans to reduce a total of around 800 parking spaces in the city center by 2025. There are currently 3,770 parking spaces in the parking garages and underground garages in the city center, with an average occupancy of 43% in 2024. In the long term, the aim is to expand the park-and-ride offer from 9,880 to 10,550 parking spaces in order to cover the growing need for residents and commuters.

urban development initiatives and funding

Rostock is in a phase of intensive urban development, supported by urban development funding. In 2023, over 22.5 million euros flowed into various investments in the city, including the renovation area "Stadtzentrum", where around 15.6 million euros were spent. These measures also include projects to improve the life and living situation in districts such as Dierkow, Toitenwinkel, Lichtenhagen and Schmarl.

These initiatives aim to take into account the needs of the growing population, since the population in Rostock is slightly increasing and a lack of living space for young families is determined. A crucial part of the urban development strategy is the initiative "New Living in the city center", which has been aiming to promote internal building gaps since 2006 and to support high -quality construction projects. The innovative approach, known as the "Rostock model", enables builders to actively participate in urban development, including individuals and building cooperatives.

In summary, it can be said that Rostock not only wants to cover the need for living space with these urban planning measures, but also wants to improve urban culture and quality of life for all citizens. The various projects show that the city is on the right track to invest millions in their future development and thus have a long -term positive influence on the community.
