Hildesheim students win prices for AI ideas for seniors

Hildesheim, Deutschland - On June 5, 2025, this year's Linga Weeks were celebrated, an important event that deals with the development of artificial intelligence (AI) for older people. The event is organized by the Lower Saxony State Initiative of Generational everyday life (Linga) and aims to sensitize students to the potential of aging. This year's motto was: "How can artificial intelligence of older people help in everyday life?" 34 students from six specialist areas took part in four universities in Lower Saxony to develop and present interdisciplinary ideas.

The Linga weeks began with inspiring impulses on the subject of AI and a dialogue between the students and the elderly. A central aspect was the co-creation and participation, in which the students were divided into interdisciplinary groups. Important skills such as conflict resolution, cooperation and self -organization were particularly promoted. In a two -week self -learning phase, the participants developed innovative concepts that also strive for a market launch.

awarded projects with Hildesheimer participation

All three award-winning projects that were awarded during this Linga Weeks had a significant participation of Hildesheim students. The first place went to "Smarter Huus", a AI-supported monitoring system for the living environment. “Bertrugsrugrugrugrugrugsrugrugrugsrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugrugr, an app that is supposed to protect senior citizens from attempts to fraud. The “Mira” project, a voice-controlled, AI-based everyday assistant in the form of a wall mirror, secured third place.

The award of these projects not only underlines the commitment of the students, but also opens up opportunities for further development and a possible market launch of these technologies. The next motto of the Linga weeks 2026 will illuminate the challenges of caring relatives between work and care.

Ki and the exchange with older people

The exchange between younger and older generations is the focus of these initiatives. The “AI for good aging” project aims to interest older people for artificial intelligence and to facilitate access to some technologies. Learning offers include understanding of machine learning, practical experience with AI devices and dealing with ethical questions. These qualification measures convey digital skills that are important for self -determined aging.

A current Bitkom survey shows that the use of AI is the highest priority for older people. Nevertheless, older people and their advocates have so far hardly been integrated into the development and use of AI systems. Access to data older people remains a challenge for many research projects. The initiative is therefore aiming for more cooperation between business, science and civil society in order to involve the perspectives of older people in the discourse via AI.
