Save bumblebees: exciting actions and exhibition in Ebersberg!

Ebersberg, Deutschland - The district group Ebersberg of the Bund Naturschutz has launched a creative program to raise awareness of the risk to the endangerment of domestic bumblebee species. This commitment is supported by several Hummel projects that aim to understand and document the way of life of these important pollinators. According to Merkur , various activities are offered in the region.

A central element is the hiking exhibition "Humme - Bees in fur", which can be seen in the foyer of the Ebersberg district office until June 30th. This exhibition provides visitors about the life of the bumblebees and their ecological importance. Many domestic bumblebee types are at risk, which underlines the need for such educational actions.

Lecture and Hummel Challenge

On Friday, June 6th, a lecture will also take place in the “Unterm First” citizens' hall in the Ebersberg monastery building yard, which is made by Dr. Edwin Hungerhuber is managed. This lecture presented the image and video material that illuminates the bumblebees and their way of life. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is open to everyone interested.

parallel to the exhibition and the lecture, the Ebersberg district group calls for participation in the "Hummel Challenge", which runs until July 3. The participants can photograph bumblebees, determine them with an app and report their observations. This data flow into a nationwide monitoring project of the Thünen Institute in Braunschweig, which creates a more comprehensive picture of the spread of the bumblebee types in Bavaria.

collect data with modern apps

For the documentation of the bumblebee species, the participants use the free apps obsidentify or observation. This platform is an EU-based nature observation platform based in the Netherlands, which, according to Bund Naturschutz The destination software NIA, which is trained in European species, is supported by artificial intelligence that checks the validity of the collected data. Users can either upload photos with GPS data or save their observations anonymously.

Overall, the Hummel Challenge is part of a broader initiative that emphasizes the importance of insects as indicators of biological diversity and climate change. Bumblebees are considered to be particularly relevant pollinators in agricultural and natural ecosystems. The website of the Nature Conservation Associations affirmed that 45 bumblebee species are recorded in Austria, of which 41 are still present, which underlines the need for monitoring.

The combination of education, practical projects and research data offers a variety of incentives for the population to actively participate in nature conservation. This not only generates knowledge, but also raised awareness of the changing biodiversity.
