In Germany, around 72,000 people will live without any health insurance in 2023 - a value that represents less than 0.1 percent of the total population. Insurance status at a glance
The entire insurance landscape in Germany is diverse: around 9 million people, i.e. around 11 percent of the population, have private health insurance. Here, too, there are almost 2.4 million relatives with family insurance. In contrast, 73.3 million citizens - around 89 percent - are legally insured, with 16.8 million people counting as family-insured relatives. Of those legally insured, a total of 5.1 million people have voluntary insurance status, often self-employed or high-earning employees.

The numbers illustrate the need to take compulsory health insurance seriously and address the needs of everyone in the country.
