Inflation in Germany rises surprisingly: prices remain high in October!

With a sharp rise in consumer prices, Germany will face new economic challenges in October 2025. Inflation reached 2.3 percent compared to the previous year, as the Tagesschau reports. Experts had previously expected a lower figure of 2.2 percent. The latest result follows an annual high of 2.4 percent in September.

What is surprising to many is the fall in energy prices, which fell by 0.9 percent in October after falling by 0.7 percent in September. In contrast, consumers had to dig deeper into their pockets for services; Here prices climbed by 3.5 percent, a slight increase compared to 3.4 percent in the previous month. There was also an increase in food prices, but not as strongly as in September: Here prices rose by 1.3 percent after 2.1 percent in the previous month.

Meanwhile, the European Central Bank (ECB) remains calm and is keeping key interest rates unchanged at 2.0 percent. The core inflation rate, which excludes energy and food prices, remains stable at 2.8 percent. The ECB is aiming for an inflation rate of 2 percent in the long term, but warns of possible increases through expansionary financial policy if the economic situation recovers.

It covers, among other things, intercultural and LGBTQ+ relationships as well as difficult topics such as mental health. Swift emphasized in her Twitter statement that such jokes should no longer be tolerated in this time, especially since the media often makes judgments about women that are not applied to men. Following her criticism, there was also a rise in ugly comments, including racism, against lead actress Antonia Gentry.

These incidents cast a shadow over the commitment of platforms like Netflix to telling diverse stories. Even if the discourse about femininity and sexuality is becoming increasingly important in pop culture, the question remains how fairly and respectfully it is treated. In the shadow of the economic situation, it remains to be seen how such debates will continue - both in business and in entertainment.
