Fight the traces: Experts make strong cooperation in BW!

Universität Stuttgart, 70174 Stuttgart, Deutschland - The protection of the waters and the reduction of trace fabrics are central challenges for environmental policy in Germany. In this context, the federal (SZB) trace fabric center has played an important role. It acts as a nationwide platform and coordinates measures to minimize the stress of water by anthropogenic substances in low concentrations. Today is the 5.06.2025.

like Uni Stuttgart reports, prioritizes the SZB relevant substances and derives environmental quality standards. It also organizes “round tables” to bring players from administration, science and industry together. The committee of the committee of the relevance of trace fabrics is also coordinated by this center.

cooperation network for clean waters

The head of the SZB, Prof. Adolf Eisenger, emphasizes the efficiency of the cooperation with the competence center traces of Baden-Württemberg (Koms). This center, which has been networking science, authorities, industry and sewage treatment plant operator in Baden-Württemberg for over 10 years, is an association of the University of Stuttgart, the Biberach University of Biberach and the Baden-Württemberg.

Prof. Patrick Brütigam from the University of Stuttgart emphasizes the great importance of cooperation in order to transfer scientific knowledge into practice. Vera Kohlgrüber, the head of the coms, confirms the relevance of the in -depth cooperation, which favors both sewage treatment plant operators and the environment. The synergies that arise from this partnership are crucial for the implementation of effective measures to reduce trace substances.

challenges by trace fabrics

trace fabrics that come from household water, industrial plants and agricultural areas are a serious threat to aquatic ecosystems and drinking water extraction. The Federal Environment Agency (UBA) has repeatedly pointed out that the interactions between the different trace fabrics must be taken into account. In a comprehensive approach, the SZB aims not to get micropolicants in the waste water at all.

The main tasks of the SZB also includes the evaluation of the toxicological and ecotoxicological relevance of trace substances. In addition, the center coordinates the dialogue between different interest groups, as explained Environmental Federal Agency . For this purpose, a body of up to 15 experts was founded, which has already organized “round tables” on topics such as Diclofenac and X -ray contrast agents.

strategies for water cleaning

The reduction of micropolk requires comprehensive solutions. The UBA has analyzed that the expansion of sewage treatment plants can be an effective measure by a fourth cleaning level, although it is not implemented across the board. The EU Commission also supports this approach with its proposal to amend the EU Communal Abwarwater Directive.

In view of the high costs for the implementation of these measures, close cooperation between federal states, scientific institutions and specialist associations is crucial. The BMUV stakeholder dialogue that has already started for strategy development for trace fabrics in waters shows the direction that politics wants to take to protect waters.

In cooperation between science, politics and industry, it will remain one of the central tasks of the SZB, to promote exchange of experiences and to develop effective methods to reduce trace substances. The success of these efforts is essential for the protection of the ecological integrity of our waters and ultimately also for the quality of our drinking water.
