Carnival of Cultures 2025: Colorful spectacle in Friedrichshain!

Friedrichshain, Berlin, Deutschland - Today, on June 8, 2025, Berlin celebrates the Carnival of Cultures, which will be held around Blucherplatz for four days this year. The mood is colorful and lively, while thousands of visitors perceive the different program items. Overall, more than a million people are expected to look forward to music, theater and performances by around 830 artists on three stages.

Around 350 stands offer handicrafts and culinary delights from various cultures. The traditional road parade, which is the highlight of the festival and comprises around 4,000 participants, has changed its route this year. Due to construction work, the move begins at Frankfurter Allee and runs over the Karl-Marx-Allee, with the target on Karl-Marx-Allee / Berolina Straße.

The first group, the NZUKO Umu Igbo Berlin/Brandenburg (59) from Nigeria, reached the move at 1:30 p.m. Also noteworthy participants are the Mongolian culture of Vibration e.V. (60), the Caribbean carnival of Carnival Explosion (62) and various groups that present West African and Indian music. The mood during the move is happy overall, even if some visitors report from the cars from longer intervals.

The Tibetan Association in Germany (35) for the first time takes part in the spectacle, which is seen as a sign of growing diversity within the festival. The police report on a peaceful atmosphere, despite the windy weather and the light rain, which caused some guests to go home. Security measures are also comprehensive; Around 1,500 police officers are on site, support them by colleagues from Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony.

Environmental protection plays an important role in the Carnival of Cultures. Visitors were called to avoid garbage and carry a cleanliness campaign with them. For example, dishes were served on leaf plate and drinks were output in reusable cups. In addition, a “clean-up” for Whit Monday is planned to meet the environment. The Carnival of Cultures originated in 1996 and stands for intercultural exchange, multi -layered dialogue and a sign against intolerance. He promotes the community and cohesion among those involved. According to district mayor Clara Herrmann, there is the possibility that the route of the move will return to Karl-Marx-Allee next year. The artists' opinions on the new route are positive, even if fewer spectators are at the edges at the beginning of the event.
