The role of women in literary criticism
The discussion about the visibility of authors in literature has increased in recent years. A current study at the Innsbruck newspaper archive shows that women are often underrepresented in literary criticism. An analysis of 69 German media shows that only 1109 of 3420 reviews are written by women. research results also show that male critics often discuss works of male authors, while critics have a more balanced relationship with the texts discussed.
This shows that an increase in the number of female voices in literary criticism can also lead to a wide selection of topics. One aspect that pays special attention to the Ladies Crime Festival is the thematic diversity that ranges from love to climate change to jealousy. The crime novels, which are presented by the authors, not only reflect exciting stories, but also the social challenges of our time.
