Leipzig becomes a Gothic hotspot: The WGT 2025 attracts 20,000 visitors!
The Wave Gotik meeting (WGT) in Leipzig takes place for the 32nd time this year and attracts thousands of visitors from home and abroad as usual. On this long Pentecost weekend, starting on June 7, 2025, more than 20,000 participants are expected to revitalize the city with its dark, cultural diversity. Spread over more than 50 locations in Leipzig, the festival visitors can expect a rich program that ranges from concerts to readings and exhibitions. The event was launched in 1992 and has been enjoying growing popularity since then.
The first arrival date for the participants is Thursday, which has already recorded the first visits to downtown Leipzig. A special highlight of the first festival day will be the traditional Victorian picnic in the Clara-Zetkin-Park on Friday, which begins at 2 p.m. Hundreds of participants are expected in their magnificent Victorian and Gothic outfits, while the musical highlight of the day, the appearance of Alphaville, will be very happy among those present.
diverse program and cultural highlights
The WGT 2025 offers an impressive range of events. Among the numerous program items, a lecture by the criminal biologist Dr. Mark Benecke about "Series Murder & cannibalism" awaited on Friday. On Saturday, the dance café "Ilses Erika" with DJ Sandro steadfastly creates an exuberant atmosphere, while the Swedish EBM band Spetsnaz will give a rare concert. Child-friendly events, such as the children's theater "The History of the Little Specter" for the younger visitors, as well as a guided "cemetery whisper" tour in the Südfriedhof on Sunday.
The festival has developed into a central meeting point for the Gothic scene over the years, which is also reflected in the reactions of the visitors. According to the organizers, the pre -sale this year is stronger than in the previous year, which indicates the continuing popularity and the loyal fans who travel from different parts of the world, including Australia, Japan and South America. For many, the WGT is described as the "family reunion of the black scene".
ticket prices and accessibility
Ticket prices for the WGT amount to 170 euros. However, some events are also accessible without a ticket, which makes the festival attractive to a wider audience. A medieval market, the "Wonnemond", has an admission price of 5 euros, while access to the "pagan village" costs 25 euros per day. The Victorian picnic remains free of charge and is therefore accessible to everyone interested.
The Wave Gotik meeting is not only a cultural event, but also a celebration of the community and the diversity that Leipzig dives in an extraordinary light these days. In the constant exchange between festival visitors, city residents and onlookers, a unique atmosphere unfolds that makes the WGT an unforgettable experience.
