Massive construction work in the Frankenberg district: What residents now need to know!
On Monday, May 26, 2025, extensive construction work begins in the Frankenberg district, which will include a period of about nine months. The work focuses in particular on Goffartstraße and the confluence areas for Frankenberger Straße and Turpinstraße. Regionetz GmbH is responsible for the project, which is planning the renewal of channel, gas and water pipes. House connections are also replaced, and the expansion of the district heating network is also on the agenda. These measures provide for full closures of the affected roads.
In the first construction phase, a section of the canal in the confluence area Frankenberger Straße/Goffartstraße will be renovated for around two months. During this time, Frankenberger Straße becomes a dead end in the construction area, which enables residents and delivery vehicles to access the construction site. The rescue technology development is always guaranteed. Regionetz asks the residents for understanding the impairments during the construction period and promises to keep the inconvenience as low as possible. Further information is available on the Regionetz website.
extensions and additional construction work
After completing the work on Frankenberger Straße and Drimborner Straße, further construction projects are planned on Bismarckstrasse. The renovation and expansion of supply lines will take place here. The work in Bismarckstrasse is expected to begin on December 2, 2025. This construction work includes the expansion of the district heating network as well as the modernization of water, power lines and partly of the sewer network.
Preparations for the construction work start at the beginning of the week with the dismantling of the Velocity station on the corner of Bismarck/Schlossstrasse. The station is rebuilt 200 meters further on Schlossstrasse. The actual new construction and modernization work begins on the corner of Schlossstraße/Rehmannstraße in the direction of Goffartstraße and take place in sections from intersection to intersection over a distance of around 800 meters that is scheduled for two years.
information and resident participation
Bismarckstrasse is closed in sections for through traffic, but residents and suppliers can drive up to the construction site. Some parking spaces have to be omitted for the work and as a storage area. Affected residents and traders will be informed about the measures in good time by throwing slips. Regionetz offers residents and traders to get in touch with the construction managers on site to clarify concerns or questions.
These extensive construction measures are part of a higher-level strategy to improve urban infrastructure, which also affects energy, heat and water supply as well as sewage disposal. Changes in this infrastructure influence not only the technical, but also social infrastructure and everyday mobility in the affected areas. It remains important to continuously observe and analyze the effects of such work in order to be able to better plan future needs and development.
