On Wednesday afternoon, a dramatic traffic accident occurred on the B96 between the Rügen Bridge and the Altefähr junction. A 49-year-old driver of an Opel with a caravan had to stop due to traffic conditions. A subsequent 59-year-old Ford driver also stopped, but a 47-year-old Hyundai driver could no longer stop. She raced into the Ford and pushed him onto the standing team.

The collision led to a fire that recorded both vehicles and had them completely burned out, despite the fast reactions of the fire brigades Stralsund and Altefähr. Fortunately, all drivers involved were unharmed, but the property damage amounts to around 52,000 euros. The Rügen bridge was closed for five hours for the extinguishing work and the rescue of the vehicles, which led to considerable traffic disruptions. The B96 and the adjacent urban area were severely affected because a lane was damaged by the fire consequences.
