Teaching Day: Paderborn discusses the future of sustainable education!
Hannover, Deutschland - On June 3, 2025, the 13th day of the 13th day of teaching "took place, which was under the motto" Teaching for future - sustainable teaching and teaching on sustainability ". A highlight of the program was the keynote of Prof. Dr. em. Gerd Michelsen from the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, who at short notice for Prof. Dr. Matthias Barth jumped. Michelsen spoke about the challenges of sustainable transformation in university formation and emphasized how important openness and innovative approaches are for success. A central message was the role of teachers in the qualified accompanying of the students who are supposed to act as multipliers.

In the discussions, the high priority of sustainable topics at the University of Paderborn was emphasized.
The event also offered interdisciplinary formats such as round tables, workshops and a poster session. Several awards were also awarded during the day. The funding award for innovation and quality improvement in 2024 went to three projects that pursue innovative approaches in teaching:

The teaching award for young scientific 2024 was awarded to Magdalena Can for the seminar "Verbal Communication in German" and Svenja Langer for her project "Site-Specific Sculpture in the area for Art Paderborn". In addition, several people received university didactic certificates for their "professional teaching skills in the university".
The event closed with the awarding of the "e-learning label" for events that integrate essential e-learning. In the "Professoral Teaching" category, the highest score of Prof. Dr. Mark Beutner and Prof. Dr. Tobias Jenert awarded, while Henrike Herdram was awarded for outstanding "non-professoral teaching".

In the context of the renowned events on the education for sustainable development (BNE), the Call for Papers was announced for the international conference "Charting New Horizons for Education for Sustainable Development". This will take place from November 19 to 21, 2025 in the Xplanatory in Herrenhausen Castle, Hanover. The focus is on innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to promote BNE in university formation. The call is open until June 30, 2025, and contributions can refer to four thematic focus: BNE and storytelling, the cultural heritage, democracy and peace as well as a holistic approach in the institution.
