Grandios baptism festival in Schwerin: 30 baptists celebrate on Zippendorfer Strand!

On June 23, 2025, a very special festival took place on Zippendorfer Strand in Schwerin: the first joint baptismal festival of the Evangelical Communities in the region. A total of 30 people - including babies, children and adults - were allowed to receive their baptism in or on water. This special ceremony, which was organized by five Protestant communities, aimed to break new ground and to show openness to baptism for all interested parties in the Christian faith, reports NDR .

As early as 2 p.m., the festival started with a joint service in the open air. Here the baptism families had the opportunity to actively participate in the ceremony and to design the experience individually. Immediately after the religious act, a coffee table was prepared that offered space for a picnic - of course, dependent on the weather. The organizers provided coffee and seating, while baptism families were invited to bring a cake with them, so the information from Church mv .

a festival for the community

The baptismal festival was very popular, and non-clientists were also cordially invited to take part. To strengthen the community, a separate program for children was also offered, which was well received by the youngest guests. This form of baptism, which is celebrated outdoors, reflects a recognizable trend: more and more families want a baptism that takes place outside the traditional church room and takes into account their personal needs. Regina Sommer, theologian at the University of Marburg, found in her research that many families would like a baptism that is tailored to the individual experience, as the ekd reports.

It was important for the organizers to create an accessible and child -friendly environment that strengthens family ties and celebrates faith. The increasing demand for such celebrations shows that the Protestant communities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania want to react to this request and create attractive offers.

Overall, the baptism festival on Zippendorfer Strand was a successful event, which impressively brought out the variety of the Protestant community in Schwerin. It remains to be hoped that this initiative will be of great interest not only among families, but also in the entire city.
