80 years of Theater Parchim: A celebration for the whole family!
Just celebrated the big birthday of the theater in Parchim, which celebrated its 80th birthday with a big ceremony on Sunday, September 21, 2025. With a colorful program under the motto “80 years of theater in Parchim – 80 years of theater for everyone” visitors from young to old were invited to the Kulturmühle to celebrate together.
A variety of activities designed specifically for families attracted numerous guests. From the Mahlwerk Theater Brunch, which was offered from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., to creative crafts with children in the Lilly foyer, there was something for everyone. From face painting and glitter tattoos to the sale of ceramics, the selection was colorful, as well as Ukrainian specialties and a button press machine, which was very popular with younger visitors.
A look into the past
The Parchim Theater, whose history began in 1945 as the “Bunte Bühne”, has developed over the decades into an important cultural venue in the region. Thomas Ott-Albrecht, the director of the Junges Staatstheater Parchim, emphasized the importance of the anniversary at the celebration. He also thanked all the committed people in local and state politics who always stood by the theater and made the preservation of this cultural institution possible. “Without the support we wouldn’t be able to do so well,” said Ott-Albrecht.
An emotional highlight of the ceremony was the screening of the documentary film “Then just go to Parchim” by Dieter Schumann, which was made in collaboration with NDR. This film follows young actors from the Parchimer Theater and allows the audience to immerse themselves deeply in the world of theater.
A theater for everyone
The day of the event, which began at 10:00 a.m., also offered some culinary delicacies on the terrace, such as grilled bratwurst, offered by the parents' council of the Goethe Regional School in Parchim. In addition, the juice bar of the parent council of the Adolf Diesterweg School provided refreshment.
The celebrations reached their climax around 3:00 p.m. when various speakers, including Bettina Martin, Minister for Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs MV, and Ilka Rohr, Mayor of Parchim, had their say. In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of theater for the cultural landscape of the region and invited everyone to continue to take advantage of the offer.
The Parchim Theater's anniversary is not only a reason to celebrate, but also a clear indication of how important cultural institutions are in our community. A theater that has thrilled people for 80 years is an institution that you don't want to miss and whose future paths you can look forward to.
Of course, theater lovers should not forget that advance sales for future events in the M*Halle have already begun and tickets are available for the coming months. The theater in Parchim will continue to be a place where art and culture are alive and tangible for everyone.
