Population in the district: where communities bloom and where they are fighting!

In the Ludwigslust-Parchim region, a lot is happening, as the current demographic report of the district shows. Strong differences between the communities are clearly recognizable: while some places such as Hagenow are flourishing, others, such as the Goldberg-Mildenitz Amt, fight with falling population. These developments not only present the local administrations with challenges, but also meet the everyday life of the residents hard. According to Nordkurier, Hagenow has recorded an impressive increase of 9.1 percent between 2013 and 2023. There you are well positioned: a stable influx, the good transport connection and a healthy infrastructure make the place attractive.

In contrast, it looks darker in the Goldberg-Mildenitz office. The drastic decline of 8.6 percent of the population goes back to a negative natural population development - that is, more people have died than was born. The low immigration numbers also increase this unfavorable situation. Especially rural regions in the east of the district are on the brink and run the risk of losing connection.

The larger perspective

When you look beyond the district, a very similar picture in Germany shows. According to Destatis, around 60 million people-71 percent of the population-now live in large-scale regions. These areas grow continuously, while rural regions are fighting with age -related emigration and stagnating birth rates. The age structure is a decisive factor: While the average age in the centers of the big cities is 42.6 years, it has already increased to 44.6 years in the surrounding area.

The younger adults, especially between 18 and 24 years old, prefer to move to the cities, while older, 30- to 49-year-olds are increasingly losing the surrounding area, where there are also more stable living conditions and possibly better living opportunities. This binary development is not only an urban phenomenon, but also affects the quality of life on site.

The demographic change as a challenge

In addition to influx, demographic change plays a decisive role in the everyday life of citizens. Data from Statista show that Germany's population not only ages, but also shrinks. In 2023 there were almost 700,000 newborns and around 1 million deceased, which leads to a devastating birth record of over 300,000 more deaths than births. The elderly quotient to acquire the ratio of older people is another warning signal. In eastern Germany, this is already a 100 -year -olds in worrying 48 people over 65.

The changing age distribution - more and more older people are encountering less and fewer young people - the pension system in particular presents great challenges. The BabyBoomer generation will soon reach the retirement age and will further influence the balance in the social structure. So it will not be an easy task to cope with this unequal development.

To meet these challenges and to obtain the opinions of the population, there is now the opportunity to take part in the home check. This not only initiates a dialogue, but also the chance of cash prices - an interesting initiative that can actively shape community life!

Overall, it remains to be seen how these developments will affect the reality of people in Ludwigslust-Parchim. There cannot be a "keep it up"; Each community must become creative and active in order to defy the challenges of demography and to guarantee its residents a future worth living.
