Jam festival in Below: Culinary delicacies delight everyone!

On August 17, 2025, the second jam festival took place in Below's Heimatstube, which offered a sweet experience for many visitors. The initiator, Stefie Steden from the Kunsthalle Below, explained that jam is a topic that touches many hearts and is linked to memories. Mayor Matthias Wienandt confirmed the great popularity of the festival in the community.

Guests were able to taste over 20 different types of jam. In addition to the classics such as strawberry and raspberry, there were also unusual creations such as banana chili and kumquat mint to discover. The jam jars were numbered anonymously, allowing participants to independently rate the taste experiences.

A competition of sweet creations

More than 40 people from all age groups flocked to the festival to feast, enjoy coffee and chat with one another. The best jams were chosen in an exciting competition. Florian Birke triumphed with his special creation “Kumquat Mint” and received the coveted “Belower Marmedal”. This neologism combines jam with medal and reflects the creative spirit of the festival.

Martin Kiehl secured second place with his “Currant”, while Eva Niehoff came third on the winner’s podium with her creation “Apricot-Peach”. It was a celebration of tastes that shone not only because of the diversity, but also because of the joy that is shared together on such special occasions.

Local joy and shared commitment

The successful event underlines the local connection and commitment of the community in Below. Such festivals not only create a platform for the exchange of culinary ideas, but also strengthen the cohesion of the village community. It remains to be seen what new ideas the next festival will have in store.
