The cost of this significant work is estimated to be 2.2 billion euros. This is done in the context of great investments by the federal government, which are expressly welcomed by the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. However, the necessity of a powerful rail replacement traffic is also addressed, since the fully locked route is one of the most used in Germany. The associated diversions and replacement bus traffic not only represent a logistical challenge, but also bring great inconvenience for the travelers concerned.

The full closure not only affects long -distance trains, but also various regional railway lines such as RE2, RE6, RE8, RB10 and RB14. The situation is challenging for commuters and travelers in the region, but not hopeless. In addition to the current inconveniences, the route will present itself in new splendor after completing the renovations, with more attractive train stations and modern infrastructure. Over 180 kilometers of rails and around 200 course are to be renewed and 28 train stations are to be upgraded. This will also offer the opportunity to travel more efficiently and more comfortably in the future.The DB has also announced virtual information events to inform the population and commuters about the upcoming changes. These platforms are intended to help clear out ambiguities and to make future planning transparently.
