Malchower Volksfest impresses with a children's parade and spectacular fireworks!

The eagerly awaited event took place on July 5, 2025 Malchow folk festival took place, which opened with a cheerful children's parade and a spectacular fireworks display. The festival is considered the oldest local festival in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and attracts numerous visitors every year. Traditional music and cultural education are at the heart of this cultural event, which was even added to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List in December 2014.

The children's parade was a real feast for the eyes - hundreds of children in colorful, imaginative costumes thrilled the spectators, including many parents and grandparents. There was great joy when the little “heroes” paraded through the streets and then continued the celebration on the folk festival square. The big parade, in which numerous local businesses and cultural associations take part, also takes place during the four days of the folk festival and is a highlight for everyone.

A celebration with tradition and community

The purpose of the Malchower Volksfest is not commercial; it's more about community and cultural education. The mood was euphoric and despite the often difficult times in the northern German tourism industry, the festival seemed to bring joy to the visitors. Attractions include a fairground and many activities for younger guests, who can have fun with their families.

Against the backdrop of the folk festival, the FDP/MUG faction of the Waren city council is planning a new ticket model for employees in the city center. Parking options will be made easier for 19 euros per month, which is a win-win situation for everyone involved. At the same time, the mayor will present a cost estimate for the parking options at Amtbrink and Müritzeum by the end of October.

In the self-picking field of the Müritz-Hof Knust, the blueberries are now in all their glory and are inviting you to harvest. The strawberries are also available for two to three weeks, with the great “Pick 5 – Pay 4” campaign making picking even more attractive for families.

The Event, which is known beyond the region, aims to promote direct contact with nature and community, which is particularly important in these fast-moving times. While the Malchower Volksfest is coming to a successful end, there remains hope for positive tourism development in the coming season. We can only hope that the recovery of the northern German tourism industry continues to progress.

However, a tragic event on the same day overshadowed the start of the festival: a serious bus accident on the A19, in which a Flixbus overturned and 20 passengers were injured, caused concern. The motorway was then closed and DEKRA is now investigating the cause of the accident. Interior Minister Christian Pegel commented on this and emphasized the need to improve safety on the roads. This is particularly important at a time when many people travel to take part in celebrations and festivals such as the Malchower Volksfest.
