Exciting trip to the Mecklenburg Lake District: An unforgettable adventure!
From June 8th to 15th, 2025, the VdK Ahrweiler local association experienced an unforgettable multi-day trip to the picturesque Mecklenburg Lake District. The event was organized by the renowned travel company Fulgraff, which has made a name for itself for its well-planned tours. The participants stayed in the centrally located Hotel am Schlosspark in Güstrow, which served as an ideal starting point for numerous excursions.
The first day began with a leisurely walk through the old town of Güstrow. Here travelers could marvel at sights such as the impressive cathedral, St. Mary's Church, the town hall and Güstrow Castle. The afternoon was free and many took the opportunity to take a relaxing walk around the island lake to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Exploration and culture in the region
On the second day, the group moved to Kirchdorf on the island of Poel and on to the Hanseatic city of Wismar. There, the travelers enjoyed a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage old town, which impresses with its gabled houses and brick churches. An impressive end to the day was a walk to the harbor, where the smell of fresh fish was in the air.
The third day was dedicated to Rostock, with an informative city tour and a subsequent walk through the city. The boat trip to Warnemünde offered a wonderful view of the sea, and anyone who wanted to could treat themselves to a delicious fish sandwich at the “Alten Strom”. A treat not to be missed!
The adventure then took the group to the castle complex in Mirow, where the breathtaking brick Gothic architecture can be admired. The city, which offers many sightseeing opportunities, also has some other highlights to offer. On the Mirow Castle Island there is the baroque castle, the Johanniterkirche with its princely crypt and the gatehouse, which has been a landmark of the city since 1588. Anyone who climbs the 146 steps of the church tower will be rewarded with a wonderful view.
The highlights of the lake district
On the fifth day, the participants enjoyed a boat trip on the idyllic Müritzsee from Malchow to Waren, which is known as a climatic health resort. The relaxing experience on the water was a welcome change and made for lasting memories. On the sixth day a visit to Schwerin was planned. Not only was the city tour impressive, but also the Schwerin Castle and the magical castle garden, which are true highlights of the region.
The board of the VdK Ahrweiler local association was extremely satisfied with the positive response from the participants and is optimistic that numerous fellow travelers will want to explore the beauty of the Mecklenburg Lake District next year. The region, with its diverse leisure activities and sights, such as canoeing and paddling tours, bicycle tours and access to the Müritz National Park in the Blankenförde district, has much more to offer.
The Mecklenburg Lake District is a true paradise for nature lovers, and many of the great places such as the Kunsthaus am Schloss, the arboretum and the romantic Love Island invite further exploration.
In summary, this trip was not only a feast for the eyes but also a great opportunity to make new friends and live life to the fullest. If you haven't visited the Mecklenburg Lake District yet, you should definitely do so!
