Eklat at the village festival: Fiusable chants make Kargow take notice!
At a village festival in Kargow, Mecklenburg Lake District, an incident caused a sensation. In the night of June 22, 2025, part of the audience sang around 1 a.m. with the xenophobic lines of text of the party hit "L’Amour Toujours" by Gigi d’Agostino: "Foreign Aus, Germany the Germans". This incident not only made local waves, but also showed parallels to similar incidents in Germany, such as an incident in May 2024 on Sylt.
The DJ, who took care of the music, apologized publicly and emphasized that he had not heard the xenophobic statements. He played the song for years and explained that he had not been aware of such slogans so far. If he had noticed the chants, he would have interrupted the song immediately. But the organizer's spokeswoman denies the incident and claims that the outrageous statements are not heard in the video. The volunteer mayor of Kargow, Matthias Kagel, remained silent about the incident
a worrying trend
Similar incidents have recently also hit other cities. On May 19, 2024, guests sang in a bar on Sylt during a celebration also xenophobic slogans. A video of it ensured nationwide media reporting and led to criminal investigations. In recent years there have been over 360 police operations in Germany due to comparable incidents. The Flensburg public prosecutor's office has hired the investigation against many of those involved, since it often lacks sufficient suspicion, while it was imposed on a person who indicated the Hitler salute.
These incidents are only drops on a hot stone in the context of growing xenophobia in Germany. According to the federal anti -discrimination agency, the consulting requests rose to a maximum of 11,400 in 2024. The most common cases relate to ethnic origin and racism, and joins a worrying increase in xenophobic acts of violence that rose to around 1,420 in 2024.
social reactions
The social reaction to such incidents cannot be overlooked. Politicians condemned the chants and public protests against racism are the order of the day. In the meantime, measures to create Safe-Places are also introduced in various cities to set an example against discrimination and violence. However, a study shows that 21.8% of Germans are considered to be a manifesto, which is an alarming increase compared to previous years.
gigi d’Agostino himself expressed understanding and concern about the abuse of his song for such slogans. He is not the only one who is faced with the negative social effects. Such events throw large shadows on the connections between racism and social inequality in Germany.
A ray of hope is that the topic of racism is more in the focus of the public. The events of the past few months are a clear request to society to fight against discrimination and to work for respectful coexistence. Even if many incidents run in the sand, the hope that the attention that such incidents create will lead to positive changes.
