Focus on climate protection: 200,000 euros for innovative projects in MV!
A celebratory award ceremony took place today at the Wismar Phantechnikum, where outstanding projects in the field of climate protection in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were honored. Under the motto “Make.a.Good.Climate.” The Thünen Institute awarded a total of 13 excellent projects that stood out through special commitment and innovative approaches. Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) presented the prizes as part of this festive event.
This initiative is dedicated to making climate protection in rural areas more visible and promoting new ideas. This year, prize money totaling 220,000 euros was offered, which came from the special fund to promote natural climate protection and agriculture. The majority of the bonuses go to projects that have been successfully implemented in the last five years, as well as innovative ideas that are in the pipeline. This is supported by the state program “MV tut was”, which combines social participation and climate protection.
The awarded projects
The jury, consisting of representatives from politics, practice and science, evaluated the submitted projects in two categories. Eight projects that have already been implemented received 15,000 euros each, including:
- Agroforst in Gessin (Mecklenburgische Seenplatte)
- Bürgerenergiegenossenschaft Neuenkirchen (Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald)
20,000 euros were awarded for each of the five ready-to-implement ideas that are currently being planned. Examples of this are:
- Genossenschaftliches Nahwärmenetz in Palingen (Nordwestmecklenburg)
- Klimadorf Klein Siemen (Landkreis Rostock)
The path to the next competition
The competition will continue next year, which is already raising anticipation. The registration deadline for the new projects is July 10th, and the next award ceremony is planned for autumn 2026. The aim remains to further promote innovative ideas in the area of climate protection and to strengthen civil society participation. Overall, the competition impressively shows how great the commitment to climate protection is in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. With solid financing from the State Ministry for Climate Protection, Agriculture, Rural Areas and the Environment as well as through the commitment of initiatives, associations and communities, the foundation is being laid to continue driving forward sustainable projects in the future. Therefore, one can only hope that the incentive to take part in the next round of the competition motivates even more people and organizations to think creatively and make a positive contribution to the environment with their ideas. nordkurier.de emphasizes that the competition not only focuses on the projects themselves, but also on the creators and offers them a stage.
