Petersdorfer Birkengrill opens: tradition and new ideas combined!

There's news from the gastronomy scene: The legendary Petersdorfer Birkengrill has reopened its doors! After three years of closure, during which former owner Gerlinde Brandt's health problems made operations impossible, a new captain is now at the helm. Maik Voß, a native of Rostock and a trained chef, has taken over the building and property from Brandt and is thus continuing a tradition that is known far beyond the borders. This reports Northern Courier.

The beginnings of the Birkengrill go back to February 2, 1992, when Hans-Jürgen and Gerda Kozian founded the snack bar. After a decade, Gerlinde Brandt took over and ran the grill for more than 20 years. Even under Maik Voß, the culinary offering remains traditional: from currywurst to schnitzel, and of course the popular boulettes should not be missing. A hearty breakfast is also served every morning - ideal for early risers, such as the region's farmers, who like to meet there for brunch.

New plans for the birch grill

Maik Voß has big plans for the birch grill. In addition to the classic food offering, he is thinking about introducing a party service. “This could be well received for celebrations and events,” says Voß. There will also be a playground for the little guests, and he is looking for an original GDR waffle iron for making waffles - a nostalgic treat that is sure to attract many visitors.

The opening time is well thought out: from Monday to Friday the doors are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you are passing through, you will find plenty of parking spaces directly at the house, which is located directly on the federal highway 104. This makes the Birkengrill not only a place for locals, but also an attractive destination for travelers. But that wasn't enough, the facility also had to be extensively renovated before visitors could sit down again.

A look into the future

The residents of the region can be happy that their beloved snack culture is now being revived. “I just wanted to continue the birch grill because I appreciate the concept and want to keep the tradition,” adds Voß. This shows that even in the catering industry, personal relationships are often crucial for success. And while the Birkengrill is repositioning itself in the culinary sector, there are also completely different new openings in the area. The popular “6 Fore Street,” for example, has finally reopened after two years. There, 90s indie music and a cozy atmosphere promise the best entertainment. Current activities include furniture rearrangements and the launch of a new TikTok channel aimed at younger audiences, reports Tshirtme.

In this promising time for regional gastronomy, it remains exciting to see what Maik Voß will do with the birch grill. The tradition has a new face, and it will be interesting to see how the birch grill will develop further - tradition with a modern twist, that sounds like a good plan!
