Seengut from Waren: Regional diversity for every budget!

New things are happening in the picturesque region of the Mecklenburg Lake District. Katrin Berndt from Waren has fulfilled a dream with her online shop “Seengut” and not only focuses on the distribution of regional products, but also promotes a unique connection with the region. Her idea arose from a personal desire to offer local producers a central platform to become more visible on the internet. Many of them previously had a difficult time gaining a foothold in online sales, as wir-sind-mueritzer.de reports.

The shop started with around 100 products from 15 manufacturers that do not offer typical postcard motifs, but rather present real regional masterpieces. Whether liqueurs, soaps, hats or decorative items - the range is constantly growing and a new producer is added almost every month. “Seengut” sees itself as a heartfelt project that promotes cooperation and joint projects with new producers and thus focuses on the diversity of the Mecklenburg Lake District.

A new look at regional products

In order to offer customers a comprehensive shopping experience, “Seengut” also offers gift sets for different budgets. And best of all: Delivery is free, except for books. There is currently an exciting raffle on Instagram where you can win three vouchers worth 25 euros each. In addition, new customers receive a 10% discount on their first order until the end of November - a good reason to visit the shop!

Berndt’s commitment to understanding and addressing the difficulties many producers face when selling online sets “Seengut” apart from other online platforms. It's not without reason that she's seen as a pioneer for a new wave of regional marketers looking to strengthen their roots while reaching a broader audience.

Katrín Jakobsdóttir: An influential politician

Looking outside the box takes us to Iceland, where Katrín Jakobsdóttir, who held the office of Prime Minister from December 2017 to April 2024, attracted national and international attention. Born on February 1, 1976, she became Iceland's second female prime minister and received the highest approval ratings for a prime minister in her country during her time in office. As is well known, it also achieved a high level of trust, which was rated by 59% of respondents in 2015 Wikipedia reports.

Her political work has always focused on social improvements, including investments in social housing and measures to combat gender pay inequality. Jakobsdóttir's government was able to maintain stability through a coalition, while its leadership was viewed positively during the COVID-19 pandemic. In October 2023, she was once again an eye-catcher during a strike for equal pay, showing an unwavering commitment to social justice.

In addition to her political successes, Jakobsdóttir also has literary ambitions. She made her debut as an author with the crime novel “Reykjavík: A Crime Story,” and is already planning to collaborate with Ragnar Jónasson on another book.

Berndt and Jakobsdóttir's stories are examples of strong commitment at regional and global levels and show the importance of promoting local initiatives and voices in a global context. Whether through the online shop “Seengut” or through political leadership – it becomes clear here that home and one’s own roots are not only important for the local people, but can also have a lasting influence on the world.
