Holidaymakers praise Müritz and demand better paths for cyclists!

In the middle of the picturesque landscape of the Mecklenburg Lake District, where crystal-clear lakes and gentle hills create an inviting ambience, Manfred Weiche and Anette Witte from near Hanover are spending their first vacation in Waren an der Müritz. Surrounded by untouched nature and an extensive cycle path network of around 2,000 kilometers, which even leads through the Müritz National Park, the two holiday travelers came here primarily to cycle. The region offers an impressive backdrop of forest areas, hilltops and charming small factories.

Despite their enthusiasm for the beauty of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the two vacationers discovered a certain drawback. “The signage is not always optimal,” complains Anette Witte. An example of their getting lost: While looking for the Feisneck, they accidentally ended up in Kargow. But that doesn't stop them from enjoying the beauty of the region to the fullest. “We definitely plan to come back and recommend cycling,” adds Manfred Weiche optimistically. They really enjoyed their stay at the “radlon” hotel in Waren, and they also liked the quiet places away from the crowds.

Interesting perspectives and challenges

Of course, the boat trip from Rechlin to Waren also has its own attraction. Wolf-Dieter Schott, managing director of the Blue-White Fleet, reports a promising start to the season until June, although the number of passengers experienced a slight decline due to unstable weather and replacement rail services. But he remains optimistic: “Overall, we are at the same level as last year and have hired new employees,” says Schott. In addition, prices have been adjusted to cover operating costs.

The operators of Fleesensee Castle in Göhren-Lebbin are also satisfied with the summer season, even if the weather wasn't always good and bookings are increasingly being made at short notice. Managing director Michael Scharf notes that guests' travel behavior has normalized compared to the pandemic years. However, one challenge remains: recruiting and retaining qualified employees. Nevertheless, Scharf has confidence in the late summer and off-season. Many guests appreciate the quiet spots along the route and take the opportunity to travel in a relaxed manner.

Petitions for better cycle paths

All in all, it can be said that the Mecklenburg Lake District is a worthwhile destination for nature and cycling lovers. With a little more attention to cycle path signage, the region could not only become even more attractive for visitors, but also further consolidate its good reputation as an idyllic holiday paradise. As the couple from Hanover shows, despite minor obstacles, the fascination for this unique landscape remains unbroken - that makes you want more and pull out the bike bell for the next tour.
