New training location: Naval officers get started in Parow!

A new phase in the training of naval officers begins: For the first time, the basic training of future officer candidates will be carried out in Parow, not far from Stralsund. From September 1, 2025, up to 300 candidates will take their first steps into military life at the Naval Technology School (MTS). This means that the training is moving from the Mürwik Naval School in Flensburg and the Naval NCO School in Plön. This decision was largely motivated by the change in officer training from one to two years in order to create more space for the increasing number of apprentices interested in a career in the Navy.

Currently, 246 candidates have already registered, with an increase expected until the training starts in September. The age mix is interesting: two thirds of the newcomers are between 17 and 21 years old, while the proportion of women is 15 percent. This shows that interest in a solid basic training program in the Navy remains very popular.

Bundeswehr Day in Stralsund

On June 28th, today, “Bundeswehr Day” takes place across Germany, which also sets a special tone in Parow. From 10:00 a.m., visitors are invited to explore the MTS and find out about the soldiers' training, technology and everyday life. The motto of the event, “We are here,” goes hand in hand with the effort to create transparency and promote dialogue with the population. Citizens have the opportunity to talk to soldiers and experience technology up close.

The event has established itself as an important forum. The last time it took place was six years ago. This time, guests can expect not only training insights, but also highlights such as the ceremonial vows of the recruits on the Old Market in Stralsund. Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, General Carsten Breuer, will give the ceremonial speech and make the entry in the Golden Book of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund.

Insights into the training offers

The MTS is not only responsible for officer candidates, but also offers technical training courses for the naval forces. In addition to the basic training, the newly trained naval officers follow the officer course at the Mürwik Naval School. There, in-depth specialist knowledge is imparted that is required in the Bundeswehr's various areas of operation - from specialist service to leadership skills. The Bundeswehr differentiates between different career paths, which show the different career opportunities in this area. Fair employment conditions make the careers of the enlisted men and non-commissioned officers attractive, even for career starters.

With a diverse portfolio of training paths, the Bundeswehr promises young people an excellent career opportunity that not only promotes professional qualifications, but also makes a significant contribution to the security of our country. On “Bundeswehr Day”, citizens have the opportunity to find out first-hand about these careers. Nobody should miss the event!
