New President of the OVG: Michael Skeries now heads the judiciary in MV!
There is news from the judiciary in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Michael Skeries has been appointed the new President of the Higher Administrative Court, as the [state government reports](https://www.regierung-mv.de/Aktuell/?id=214996&processor=processor.sa.press release). He succeeds Eckhard Corsmeyer and will certainly bring a breath of fresh air to this position. Justice Minister Jacqueline Bernhardt emphasizes that Skeries, as a recognized lawyer, enjoys an excellent reputation in the state judiciary.
The Dortmund native, who was born in 1963, brings a wide range of experiences with him. After his major state law examination in Hamburg, Skeries came to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1993. There he initially became a probationary judge and quickly rose to higher positions, from being appointed judge at the Administrative Court in 1996 to presiding judge at the Schwerin Administrative Court in 2002. Finally, in 2023, he was appointed Vice President of the Greifswald Finance Court.
Commitment to young lawyers
Particularly noteworthy is Skeries’ commitment to recruiting young talent in the legal field. From 2019 to 2020 he headed the state judicial examination office, which underlines his passion for supporting young lawyers. In his new role, he will certainly continue to have a good knack for attracting fresh talent to the judiciary.
The Higher Administrative Court of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is based in Greifswald, a charming university town that, as a Hanseatic city, has a rich history to offer. The court is housed in a listed building at Domstrasse 7, where the State Constitutional Court and partly the Greifswald Administrative Court also have their headquarters, as Wikipedia informs.
Changes in the transmission of judgments
Another current development concerns the transmission of the judgment by the Higher Administrative Court. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Justice Department has decided that anonymized decisions will no longer be sent in written form. Instead, these will now be posted in the state legal information system LARIS, which increases transparency.
If you still wish to have it sent personally, you should state this explicitly, as the free requests are limited to specific file numbers. Those interested can contact the Higher Administrative Court in Greifswald, where information on the costs of sending decisions is also provided.
With the change at the top of the Higher Administrative Court and the organizational changes, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is facing exciting times in the judiciary - we can be curious to see which course Michael Skeries will take.
