Major search operation in Wolfenbüttel: Ten-year-old boy missing!

In the small community of Wendessen near Wolfenbüttel, Lower Saxony, there is a feverish search for a ten-year-old boy who has been untraceable since Friday evening, August 30, 2025. The boy left his parents' house around 6:30 p.m. and has been missing since then. Due to his special needs - he is autistic, rarely speaks and does not react to strangers - the search is particularly challenging. The boy usually remains inconspicuous and sometimes only makes noises. Loud Northern Courier The boy's last known clothing is black jeans, white socks and a black sweater.

The police immediately initiated an extensive search program. A large-scale operation was launched thanks to the use of helicopters, search dogs and drone teams with thermal imaging cameras. Supported by numerous volunteers and by publishing information on social media and a radio announcement, the police are mobilizing the population to help. However, these measures have so far been unsuccessful, which only increases concerns for the boy's well-being. Information can be given to the Wolfenbüttel police on 05331/933-0.

Current location of the search

So far, the search operations on Saturday night have not provided any clues as to the boy's whereabouts. A police spokesman underlined the importance of the search measures and emphasized that the operation would be expanded. This urgency is particularly due to the fact that almost 650 minors are currently missing nationwide, many of whom are also autistic children. Dealing with this special situation has recently been discussed in the search for other missing autistic boys, such as in a case from Weilburg, where the search lasted for over two weeks without the boy being found. NDR also reports that search tactics need to be changed because autistic children usually do not actively seek contact with strangers.

Experiences from other cases

The challenges that arise when searching for missing autistic children have been illustrated time and again by tragic examples. There are parallels to the missing Pawlos, who disappeared in April of this year and whose fate there has so far been no positive news. The Weilburg police have already exchanged ideas with the investigators from Bremen in order to learn from their experiences. The realization that autistic children do not accept or seek help in extreme situations has led many professionals to consider alternative search methods, such as hanging balloons or playing familiar tunes. Mercury highlights that in such cases the prospects of a positive outcome may depend heavily on the type of search methods used.

Police hope the public will come through the reporting and decide how best to get involved. As the search for the boy in Wendessen continues, the community remains tense and worried about the little boy's whereabouts. Continued active support from citizens could be crucial in ensuring the boy's safe return home.
