Wismar, Deutschland - What's going on in Wismar? At the port festival, Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) tirelessly advertises new employees. Under the motto "Would you like to win an ice cream?" Put the walks of the shipyards of passers -by. TKMS, owner of the Wismar shipyard since 2022, is located in the middle of a large setting offensive. The reason for this lies in the current global upgrade, in which the German Bundeswehr is not left out. Order situation: U-boats and a modern research ship are on the plan that is to be manufactured in Wismar.

The company plans to create around 100 new jobs by the end of 2025. In the long term, the number should increase to 1,500 employees by 2029. Currently 100 employees are already working there, but a further 100 are to be added by the end of 2023 and even 300 by 2026, according to Marie-Christin Lange, who has been responsible for employer branding at TKMS since early 2022.

Future -oriented jobs

In the current time, many areas are in the spotlight. Specialists in maintenance, electrics, construction mechanics and the engineering and warehouse logistics areas are particularly sought. The shipyard has already successfully participated in job fairs in Rostock and the Wismar University of Applied Sciences. The applications from Wismar itself are going well, but the company also wants to win the surrounding area. In order to increase the attractiveness, the introduction of tariff salaries and a 35-hour week until 2029 are planned.

TKMS has also announced that it can separate the marine division from the parent company Thyssenkrupp and bring it to the stock exchange. This could underline the development of the company as the most modern marine company. The company also plans to expand the submarine shipyard in Kiel with a whopping 250 million euros by 2023. The aim is to develop Kiel into the international competence center for conventional submarine construction.

orders and investments

A new project is already on the table: Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius plans to buy six new submarines, within the framework of which TKMS is supposed to build four German submarines in class 212cd. The order volume amounts to an impressive 4.7 billion euros. Much of the added value will remain in Germany, around 90 percent. An interesting number is that 22 percent of the added value flow to Bavaria, which shows how much this sector is networked.

The connection between Wismar and Kiel becomes clear due to the long-term focus on the submarine building. TKMS took over the shipbuilding company in Wismar in 2022 to expand the manufacturing capacities in both Wismar and Kiel. In the end, up to 1,500 new jobs are to be created here, which is a real profit for the Region.

Overall, it turns out that TKMS is not only active in Wismar, but also plays an important role in Kiel. Always new developments give hope that the maritime industry in Germany, especially in Schleswig-Holstein, will continue to flourish.

for all curious: free ice sample and stickers were distributed to all visitors at the stand, regardless of their job interest. A successful action that shows that not only the money, but also the people are the focus.
