Floating containers for schools: New hope for northwest Mecklenburg!
Something is happening in swimming lessons in the Northwest Mecklenburg district: The Left is calling for the introduction of swimming containers for schools. The district council will consider this proposal on October 9th. Horst Krumpen, the district chairman of the Left, sees mobile swimming pools as an urgent need to promote children's ability to swim. Finally, the decline in this skill in the state is alarming. Where is the good old fun of learning to swim if the students first have to be transported to distant swimming pools?
A floating container consists of a converted overseas container and is therefore not only mobile, but also a modern solution to local challenges. This concept has already established itself as a successful model in North Rhine-Westphalia, with a container currently being planned for the Göttingen district. The purchase costs for such a container are around 600,000 euros, plus additional expenses for water filling, heating and transport. The Left's proposal is seen as a test mandate for the administration to clarify the actual need and feasibility of this idea.
Floating container – an innovative concept
Mobile floating containers are not only practical solutions, but also technically well thought out. Research shows that mobile pool technology, such as the PoolRay MP1-600, significantly improves safety standards. This compact medium-pressure UV disinfection system minimizes unpleasant odors and eye irritation and ensures safe water quality. Thanks to its small footprint, it is ideal for use in mobile units. It also allows a flow rate of 12 m³/hour and requires the use of activated carbon filters.
These containers are used not only for student swimming lessons, but also for swimming safety training. A total of four mobile floating containers are being planned, three of which have already been put into operation. In this way, communities in Germany can meet the needs of children directly on site. The concept is to set up the containers in schoolyards or community centers and give every child the opportunity to learn to swim.
The need for swimming education
Why is this so important? A look at the numbers shows: the number of non-swimmers of primary school age has doubled in recent years. Being able to swim is essential for survival and should not just be a luxury. Jens Kruppa, former Olympic swimmer and founder of mobile swimming schools, has already provided important impetus with his initiative to make learning to swim more sustainable. His concept is based on well-thought-out technical solutions and aims to ensure that every child can swim - a goal that is more urgent than ever these days.
In Grevesmühlen there are already calls for a new swimming pool at Ploggensee. However, these plans are on hold due to the enormous costs of 15 million euros in construction costs and 1 million euros in annual operating costs. It's no wonder that the idea of mobile swimming pools is so popular right now - they offer a flexible and cost-effective alternative to introducing children in the region to swimming.
The initiative in the Northwest Mecklenburg district could be a first step in the right direction to soon enable nationwide swimming lessons and sustainably promote children's swimming ability. Let's hope that this application is successful and gives the younger generations a good dose of swimming fun.
