Summer evening in Zahrensdorf: Community celebrates the historical treasure!

Last Saturday, June 21, 2025, the village church in Zahrensdorf experienced a special evening, which touched the hearts of the visitors. The annual summer evening, organized by the support association for the preservation of the village church of Zahrensdorf, was a complete success and was very popular. This association, which has been committed to the listed church for over 20 years, offered the guests not only a musical program, but also the opportunity to meet and exchange.

The ambience in the late medieval church was unique, visitors enjoyed the sounds of the Hagenower string group "Sonntagsladys", which created a good atmosphere with well -known film music. Angret Haase, the chair of the association, had prepared for the evening and emphasized the importance of donations in her words. These are crucial for the preservation of the church, which has already needed 360,000 euros for the renovation of the church tower in recent years. An urgent appeal to everyone present to actively participate in the preservation of the historical heritage.

The role of the support associations

As the German Foundation explains Monument Protection, support associations such as the one in Zahrensdorf play an important role, especially in rural regions. These organizations often close gaps between the offers of the state and church side and the actual needs of the community. The support association currently comprises around 30 members, and most of them are voluntary active. Your mission: keeps the church alive and makes it accessible to the community through events such as this summer evening.

A particularly remarkable event recently was the visit of descendants of former parishioners from Australia. Such encounters not only create a deeper connection with one's own history, but also motivate to maintain the cultural heritage. Nevertheless, the search for younger members remains a challenge to bring fresh ideas and new commitment to the club.

The challenges of monument protection

The preservation of a listed building brings with it many challenges. In particular, the need for renovation at the chapel and the monument -friendly care of the cemetery are topics that currently employ the association and the community. The legal provisions on monument protection, which are defined differently by the individual federal states in Germany, do not make the situation easier. Because owners are obliged to maintain what can be a great burden in some cases.

The German Foundation for Monument Protection supports owners who cannot finance the preservation of their monuments alone by promoting around 600 renovation projects annually. The following applies: The funds should not serve to remove the responsible authorities from their responsibility. The monument is determined by special historical or architectural characteristics and ensures that cultural history remains preserved.

in Zahrensdorf, pastoral care is temporarily in the hands of the pastor Christian Lange from Vellahn, since due to a structural reform, no permanent re -occupation of the parish office is planned. In the future, the pastor team around Daniel Havemann and Johanna Montesanto will take care of the community. The residents are excited and hope that the new pastors will also work on the challenges of monument protection and community work.

With commitment, heart and willingness to donate, the association and the municipality of Zahrensdorf are optimistic about the future. The preservation of the village church is not only an act of monument protection, but also an investment in the community and its history. Because as the saying goes: where history lives, the future is in it!
