EWE Baskets under pressure: clear defeat against Rostock Seawolves!

Another tough test for EWE Baskets Oldenburg went wrong last weekend. On September 7th, 2025 they lost 63:82 against the ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES in the StadtHalle Rostock. This was the second defeat for Oldenburg in just 24 hours, having previously faced the same opponent. An intensive week of training with four test matches in just eight days probably left its mark, which was reflected in the performance. Of particular note is that Chris Clemons, one of the key players, was rested and did not appear on the field.

The ROSTOCK SEAWOLVES had the home advantage and were in top form right from the start. They quickly took control of the game and were able to pull away to 45:25 by halftime. Robin Amaize in particular was the outstanding player for Rostock with 20 points. Nicholas Tischler was the only EWE Baskets player to score in double figures, scoring 15 points and seven rebounds. On the SEAWOLVES side, four of the nine players used scored in double figures, which illustrates their dominance.

Unusual weaknesses for the Oldenburgers

The EWE Baskets struggled primarily with physical and mental speed. They only managed to convert one of nine attempts at long-range shots in the first half, which corresponds to a success rate of a meager 29 percent. This problem was compounded by Oldenburg's poor defense, which allowed Rostock to take a double-digit lead in the first quarter and trail to 31 points (69:38).

After a day of regeneration, the team stays in Oldenburg to prepare for the upcoming test matches. Next Sunday is the EWE Baskets Day against the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig. The rest of the weekend, the Rostock team will be challenged in two further tests: On Saturday, September 13th, they will play in a non-public test against Hamburg, and on Sunday, September 14th, they will play against ALBA Berlin at 3:00 p.m., which is part of a fan festival in the Sömmeringhalle.

A look at the entire preseason

In the all-German preseason Olympus, the EWE Baskets and the SEAWOLVES did not play the only games. For example, FC Bayern Munich began its preparation for the season on August 26, 2025 and has already recorded some clear victories. Other teams such as ratiopharm ulm and ALBA Berlin are also preparing intensively for the coming season, with a series of test matches that are getting fans excited.

The EWE Baskets are working on overcoming their weaknesses, while the SEAWOLVES are starting the rest of the preseason with a big chest. The friendlies are not only an opportunity to see where the teams stand, but also a chance to give fans a first look at the players and their abilities.

If the EWE Baskets want to give a better impression next Sunday against the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig, they will be required to rethink their defensive strategies and hone their accuracy. With the right attitude, the second part of the preseason could also be a successful phase for Oldenburg.
