Rostock-Laage: Airport change to Crisp Partners causes excitement!
Aviation in Germany is currently facing major challenges. On July 17, 2025 there will be news from Rostock-Laage Airport, where a change of ownership is pending. Crisp Partners GmbH, a Berlin investment company, has announced the takeover of the airport. Crisp Partners is thus replacing the previous owner Zeitfracht, which has only held the airport since it was privatized in November 2021. How Time online reports, Crisp Partners GmbH has agreed on a complete takeover with Zeitfracht. The previous Century and municipal corporations that owned the airport had a say in the transaction.
Richard von Schwarzenberg, company spokesman for Crisp Partners, expressed regret about the initial lack of clarity regarding the change of ownership and emphasized the intention to maintain the location in the long term and expand the flight offering. Rostock-Laage Airport, known as the largest commercial airport in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, has been in operation as a civilian regional airport since 1993 and is also the location of the Bundeswehr.
Realignment and investments
The takeover of Crisp Partners not only means structural changes, but also clear plans for investments. The plan is to build a large photovoltaic system on the surrounding areas in order to generate additional income. The company also emphasizes exchanges with the Hanseatic city of Rostock and the municipality of Laage to ensure close cooperation.
Nevertheless, the situation at Rostock Airport is tense. Current reports from Airliners show that the check-in terminal for holiday airlines at the airport is deserted. Condor has canceled two connections per week from the 2025 summer flight schedule due to a lack of profitability.
The challenges of the aviation industry
The aviation industry in Germany is in a deep crisis. How Apollo News reports, travel is increasingly viewed as a luxury item. Domestic flight prices have risen by up to 30 percent in the last five years, often due to rising government taxes and fees. Regions that are particularly dependent on well-developed flight connections are feeling this decline particularly strongly.
Airports in structurally weak areas are under increasing pressure as the attractiveness of German airports for new routes is dwindling. This leads to an increased threat to the economic stability of rural regions. Ryanair's withdrawal has already had serious consequences: 22 routes have been canceled and 1.8 million fewer seats are available. The transport minister of the federal states is sounding the alarm and calling for measures to save air traffic in Germany. Only through political intervention can air traffic possibly regain its previous levels.
The coming months will show whether Crisp Partners GmbH can successfully take control of Rostock-Laage Airport and at the same time respond to the challenges of the industry. Switching to sustainable energy sources and expanding flight offerings could be the key to saving the airport in these turbulent times.
