Rostock GC Hansa celebrates League Cup victory and aims for championship title!

The goalballers from Rostock GC Hansa celebrated a great success in Hamburg when they won the League Cup. This triumph marks the third consecutive victory for the team. How Northern Courier reported, the Rostock team took the first step towards the coveted German championship title and only needs one point from the remaining two games.

To reach the final, the RGC Hansa players convincingly defeated Füchse Berlin (14:4) and BVSV Nürnberg (10:0). In the final they gave Blista Marburg no chance with a clear 12:2. Despite initial concerns from coach Mario Turloff, whose motivation quickly grew as a result of the draw, the team was unstoppable. After a few minutes of searching, the RGC found the pitch and dominated the encounter.

The championship within reach

The team, which consists of John Turloff, Fabian Diehm, Thomas Steiger and Reno Tiede, is not only strong in the league, but has also impressively demonstrated its previous achievements. Turloff described the cup game as the best performance of the team, which is currently the undisputed leader of the 1st Bundesliga.

In order to finally secure the championship title, RGC Hansa still has a few hurdles to overcome. The next challenges await the team with Königs Wusterhausen and Chemnitzer BC. What's interesting is that the RGC could theoretically become champions even with two defeats, but the players are striving to win these two games too.

More about goalball

Goalball, played competitively in 112 countries, is an innovative sport for people with visual impairments. The sport was developed in 1946 by Hans Lorenzen and Sepp Reindle to provide meaningful employment for former soldiers from the Second World War. A game consists of two halves of twelve minutes each, with special blindfolds required to be worn to ensure equal opportunities and the game being played only on an indoor field. Teams are made up of three players who try to get a ball filled with bells into the opponent's goal while using the sounds of the ball to sense its position.

The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) has the rules for goalball and ensures that the games are played at the highest level. The game is becoming more and more popular in Germany, and interest grows with every event, both from players and spectators.

The RGC Hansa shows impressive performance and ambitiously pursues its goals. It remains to be seen whether they can demonstrate their power in the remaining games and win the championship title!
