Social Prize Rostock 2025: Inspiring volunteer work!

In Rostock, a very special light is once again being thrown on the people who do voluntary work. The Hanseatic and university city of Rostock is calling for submissions for the Social Prize 2025. The prize recognizes exceptional voluntary commitment in the areas of asylum, social and youth work as well as health care and is endowed with 3,500 euros. This initiative is aimed at individuals as well as corporations and associations that are strongly committed to helping their fellow human beings. Applications and proposals can be submitted until August 15, 2025. If you would like to know exactly who the submissions should be addressed to, you can contact the Office for Social Affairs and Participation in Rostock directly, where Silka Hembus, who can be reached by phone at +49 381 381-6911, is available to provide further information. Rostock Town Hall reports.

This award is no coincidence: On December 8, 2023, a celebration took place in Rostock to mark Volunteer Day. Around 175 committed citizens from various areas of society were honored here. Senator Steffen Bockhahn emphasized the immense importance of volunteer work in overcoming social challenges. He emphasized that around 29 million people in Germany do voluntary work. The winners of the 2023 Social Prize were also recognized, including Waltraud and Eckard Reschke for their commitment to the integration of migrants as well as the association “Tommy Not Alone – The Clinic Nannys e. V.” to support children in the children's clinic. Committed city reports.

Volunteer achievements recognized

A total of 27 volunteers were honored for their special achievements at this event. These include Robert Bull for his commitment to the advisory board for disabled and chronically ill people, as well as Clemens Thamm and Jan Giese, who are committed to sailing in Rostock. Christian Blanck, who has been a coach at Rostocker FC for 15 years, and many others also received the well-deserved award.

  • Brunhilde Schulz für Integrationsthemen in Rostock.
  • Christian Müller für Verdienste im Brand- und Katastrophenschutz.
  • Jan Lehwald für seine Verdienste um die Freiwillige Feuerwehr Groß Klein.
  • Sabine Junge für über 50 Jahre im DRK.

This diversity shows how many areas volunteering in Rostock covers. The total number of volunteer cards awarded so far is now 1,899, a number that reflects the great commitment of the Rostock population. BAMF highlights how important such initiatives are, especially for refugees and their families, who often need support in difficult life situations. An example of this is the international World Refugee Day, which focuses on children on the run and shows how urgently help is needed.

One thing is certain: In Rostock, people are ready to lend a hand where there is need. The new year 2025 will not only set special accents with the social award, but will also provide many more opportunities for all volunteers to stand up for their fellow human beings. The city and its citizens are willing to show that a lot can be achieved together, because they definitely have a knack for volunteering!
