In a sensational trial at the Rostock district court, three members of a Roma family from Berlin had to answer for fraud and theft. The defendants, Magdalena M. (71), Mike M. (45) and Wioletta M. (47), were accused of murdering 85-year-old Günter Sch. from Brinckmansdorf to have brought 10,000 euros. The scam was perfidious: Magdalena M. acted as spokesman and introduced the lucrative business to the unsuspecting Günter. The money was handed over in the victim's car, although according to court documents there were different statements about exactly how it happened. Günter Sch. tried to chase Mike M. after handing over the money, but was unable to catch up with him.
Confessions and criminal records
In the courtroom, all three defendants made confessions, and the court assessed their crime as planned and with considerable criminal energy. The defendant's criminal record was particularly troublesome: both Magdalena M. and Mike M. had already been convicted 17 times for similar offenses. The crime took place at a time when Mike M. was already on probation, which led to a more severe sentence.
On July 9, 2025, the three defendants were finally sentenced to suspended sentences - Magdalena M. even with reservations. Günter Sch. will get back the 10,000 euros that are currently in custody at the public prosecutor's office. What is exciting is that 19 other fraud and theft cases against the defendants were dropped due to a lack of incriminating witnesses.
Cologne clans in focus
The incidents in Rostock do not stand alone. At the same time, the trial begins in Cologne against members of the Michailovic clan, who are accused of the most serious crimes such as human trafficking, welfare fraud and theft. The problem of organized crime that occurs in various cities such as Rostock and Cologne is worrying for both the public and security authorities.
These diverse problems renew the debate about the necessary measures against crime and the challenges in the social sector. The Cologne and Rostock cases make it clear that strong intervention is required to put a stop to the clans' machinations.
