Five Lakes Run: Anniversary with over 3,400 enthusiastic participants!

The Five Lakes Run took place in Schwerin on July 5th, an event that this time attracted around 3,400 running enthusiasts from numerous countries. The participants came from Denmark, the USA, Norway, Ireland, England, France, the Netherlands and Switzerland, among others, which underlines the international dimension of the event. This great response shows that the event is very popular and acts as a real community event for runners and spectators.

The starting signal for the various distances was at 8:30 a.m. from Bertha-Klingberg-Platz on the idyllic Lake Schwerin. Five categories were offered: the nautical mile, 10 km, half marathon (21.1 km) and walking. The 10 km distance was particularly popular, recording the highest number of runners with 976 runners. Moritz Faß secured victory on this route in under 40 minutes. The event was also supported by over 200 helpers who ensured that everything ran smoothly.

Special participants

The field of participants was diverse, and the age of the participants was also impressive: the oldest participant in the half marathon was 87-year-old Maria-Luise Klugs from Hanover. 87-year-old Gert Kleinschmidt from Dessau set a great record over the 10 km distance. Stories like these make the Five Lakes Run so special.

The sea mile for children up to 12 years also had a great turnout with 312 participants. Among the participants were groups such as a group of around 40 people led by Ricarda Saffan and her colleague Ronny von Trolli in Hagenow, as well as three brothers from Ludwigslust who described the run as their home run. Some relatives even brought name tags to cheer on the runners, which further enhanced the family atmosphere.

Health and safety

The participants were prepared for possible risks both through a disclaimer of liability and through insight into the organizer's security requirements. The participants had to confirm that they were physically healthy and sufficiently trained. In the run-up to the race, it was important that the runners recognized the new health risk survey from the German Athletics Association. This initiative aims to help minimize the dangers of running and raise awareness of preventive health care. The corresponding information is evaluated by the sports medicine department of the Humboldt University in Berlin.

Another element that caused a lot of discussion was the requirement that your personal start number could not be passed on to other people in order to avoid disqualifications and running bans in the future. It was also pointed out that photos and videos of participants may be used for public relations without any entitlement to compensation.

For everyone who wanted to take part in the Five Lakes Run, registration included recognition of the organizer's announcement and that no claims could be made against the organizer, sponsors or representatives of the city of Schwerin. In addition to all the sporting achievements and the joy of running, the legal framework is also important.

Overall, the Five Lakes Run was an impressive example of the strong commitment of runners, helpers and spectators. With a colorful supporting program and a variety of running categories, the event shows that running connects people - across national and generational boundaries. The results of all participants are now available and it will be exciting to see what the next edition of this impressive event will bring.
