In a colorful celebration of languages ​​and cultures, the award ceremony of the 34th federal competition Foreign languages ​​took place on June 25, 2025 in the Golden Hall of the Neustadt Palais in Schwerin. Around 1,900 school teams from Germany and German international schools have faced the competition this year, which corresponds to a total of around 10,000 participants. The young talents have given the head and collar not only for their linguistic skills, but also for their creativity and teamwork. The competition attracted 34 of the best groups, which offered their extraordinary contributions from the languages ​​of English, French, Spanish, Italian and others .

One of the highlights was the team of the Matthias Claudius-Gymnasium (MCG) from Gehrden, which won first prize in the team school with the impressive English-language radio play "Tides of Fate and Spoken Word". The story that tells of seven people and their fates during a train ride captivated the jurors and spectators alike. The group of students consisting of Camille Nortrup, Hollie von Götz, Leonel Bartels, Romy Radke, Sarah-Sophie Schön, Merle Postel and Johan-Erik Westermann not only shone in the final round, but also successfully asserted himself in the state round.

The language festival in Schwerin was not only a competition, but also a platform for intercultural exchange and a celebration of linguistic diversity. Simone Oldenburg, President of the Education Ministers' Conference, underlined the immense importance of language learning for cultural understanding and personal development. "Language is your window to new worlds," according to the motto of the competition, which inspired many students this year.

In addition to the MCG, the students of the Liborius Gymnasium from Dessau were also awarded for their contribution "Falling into the future", while several other high schools such as the Dante-Gymnasium Munich and the Paulus-Praetorius-Gymnasium Bernau were also able to win. The expert jury dealt intensively with the submitted plays, films and radio plays and evaluated the contributions for creativity and linguistic ability.

The commitment of the participating schools and students is remarkable. Every year, around 15,000 young people take part in this competition, which appeals not only students in grades six to 13, but also trainees. The goal is clear: arouse curiosity about foreign languages ​​and cultures that set the course for intercultural exchange and convey fun with language use. As in many years before, the jury evaluated the impressive performance and the creative approach of the participants. The variety of performances extended to cinematic presentations and artistic pieces to impressive radio plays .

The federal competition Foreign Languages ​​is not only a springboard for young talents, but also an invitation to all participants to courageously go on new linguistic discovery trips. and who knows, maybe the former participants will soon conquer the stages and markets of this world, always in their luggage the enthusiasm for languages ​​that they experience here have.
