Autumn magic in the Wohldorf Forest: art, culture and culinary delights!

Today, November 1st, 2025, there are interesting events on the program in northern Germany that not only provide insights into the cultural diversity of the region, but also invite you to discover the breathtaking nature. The northern tour shows one of the largest deciduous forests in the Hanseatic city with a special focus on the Wohldorf Forest in Hamburg. In the program, which will be broadcast on NDR this Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., illustrator Rüdiger Tillmann dedicates himself to the forests with his impressive ink drawings and watercolors. The exhibition in the Duvenstedter BrookHus brings autumn to life in this beautiful environment. Additional broadcast times can be found at night and early Sunday mornings, so no one misses these cultural treasures.

But that's not all. The NDR also reports on the newly renovated Schwerin State Museum, which welcomes visitors again after four years of renovation. The renovations cost around 10 million euros, with the Dorit & Alexander Otto Foundation assuming a large part of the financing. With its collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings from the 17th century and an impressive exhibition space that also includes modern works, the museum became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2024.

Lively theater and culinary experiences

Another highlight is the village theater in Timmel, which is currently presenting the play “Timmel unner Strom” about life in the small town between 1918 and 1925. The performances take place in Low German until mid-November, and they are all voluntary work that make a visit to the theater an experience.

And what would a visit to the region be without local food? “Blue Music” can be found in Oldenburg with monthly open stage evenings, which are supplemented by an integrative project. People with and without disabilities are welcome here to experience music together and enjoy improvised performances.

UNESCO World Heritage Day and more

UNESCO World Heritage Day is just around the corner, and many northern Germans are using this occasion to explore the region's cultural treasures. The South German highlights that Stralsund and Wismar, with their impressive brick Gothic and Baroque architecture, which were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, offer guided tours and concerts. The old town of Lübeck, known for its Holstentor and the silhouette with seven towers, as well as the old beech forest area, are also frequented by interested visitors. This year, special events will be held to promote its cultural and natural history significance.

Overall, it shows that the north, with its cultural events and UNESCO World Heritage sites, is always worth a visit not only for locals but also for tourists. Whether art, theater or nature, there is something for everyone here.
