IHK bosses on summer tour: Focus on problems facing Schwerin companies!
The summer tour of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce caused a stir in Schwerin yesterday. Matthias Belke, President of the Schwerin Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and Klaus-Jürgen Strupp, President of the Rostock Chamber of Industry and Commerce, set out to better understand the concerns and challenges of regional companies. Reason enough to cast new perspectives on the city's economy and at the same time intensify contact with politics. How ostsee-zeitung.de reported that visits to three different companies were on the agenda.
It started with Ypsomed, a medical technology company that has been active in the Schwerin Industrial Park since 2019. Here we work with great dedication on high-quality infusion sets and pens for self-medication. The production hall is currently being expanded by a third, which will involve an investment of over half a billion francs. In addition to new production halls, a fully automated high-bay warehouse will also be built. The need for skilled workers is high - after completion, 350 new jobs and 20 training positions will be created. A further 300 jobs and 15 training positions are planned in the second construction phase.
Bottlenecks and challenges
The focus of the discussions was not only on operational developments, but also on the general challenges that companies are faced with. So reported dihk.de that a significant shortage of skilled workers is putting a strain on health and social services. 81 percent of these facilities suffer from staffing shortages that are unlikely to improve. DIHK Deputy Managing Director Achim Dercks makes it clear that filling vacant positions is one of the biggest hurdles here. The pressure in the healthcare industry is particularly high, which also affects medical technology: 81 percent of companies in this area are struggling with cost pressure.
In a conversation with August Hildebrandt GmbH, a traditional family business in the fifth generation, the managing directors spoke about the appreciation from politicians and the daily challenges, from bureaucracy to the minimum wage regulation to the pressing shortage of skilled workers. Here the entrepreneurs realize how important it is to promote dialogue with politicians. The conclusion of many discussions was that it is time to actively work for solutions - after all, companies have a major influence on the regional economy.
Innovations and entrepreneurial spirit
The visit to Nööt Tied, a start-up manufacturer specializing in nut products and employing around 200 people, was particularly interesting. The company has successfully specialized in the production of nut oil and protein-rich nut mueslis and shows that even start-up companies can pursue innovative approaches. Klaus-Jürgen Strupp was enthusiastic about the diversity of the companies visited - from high-tech companies to family businesses and start-up businesses. This not only illustrates the breadth of the entrepreneurial spirit in Schwerin, but also the potential for future developments.
Given all the challenges in the economic landscape, including the impact of demographic changes and cost pressures, it is crucial that companies are well positioned. Loud statistic.arbeitsagentur.de A large number of companies in the region show a high level of commitment in order not only to survive, but also to prosper. The hope that newly arriving skilled workers from Ukraine can help is precious, but should also be treated with caution.
