Festival of lights and enjoyment of art: Schwerin's festive season begins on Friday!
On Friday, November 14th, Schwerin will start a colorful entertainment program that has something to offer for every member of the family. From music lovers to history buffs - everyone gets their money's worth here. The festival kicks off at Berliner Platz in Neu Zippendorf, where a magical festival of lights with a lantern parade begins.
From 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., visitors can look forward to a wide range of activities: campfire romance, delicious stick bread, making lanterns and lights, and numerous games ensure a great atmosphere. For those with a sweet tooth both big and small, there are fries, waffles and cotton candy. Not to forget the special “lantern soup”, which will delight little taste buds. A highlight is the surprise light show at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lantern parade at 6 p.m., which is accompanied by the Parchim marching band and reaches its destination at Keplerplatz. The organizer of this unofficial family festival is the Schwerin children and youth work, which is actively supported by local associations.
An extraordinary art experience
Parallel to the Festival of Lights, an exciting exhibition by the internationally celebrated comic star Anke Feuchtenberger will open in the Schleswig-Holstein House. Her works are known for her innovative graphic narratives, which have been presented in renowned institutions such as the Pompidou Center in Paris and the Angoulême Comic Festival. The exhibition also opens on Friday, November 14th and will be open daily from 11am until Sunday, November 16th.
Feuchtenberger, born in East Berlin in 1963, will be showing in Schwerin, among other things, original drawings from her award-winning graphic novel “Comrade Cuckoo,” which was nominated for the Fiction Prize at the Leipzig Book Fair in 2024 and received the “Grand Prix Artémisia” in France in 2025. In addition, drawings from her book project “The Whore H” can be seen. Her works also include color screen prints and posters from the 1990s, including a specially edited poster from 1989 that will be available for 70 euros.
