New roundabout forces B75 closure: diversion until November!
In Tostedt, Lower Saxony, the next few weeks will be all about construction. Work on a new roundabout on the B75 began there on June 4, 2025, and is now entering a significant phase. From September 9th, 2025, the federal highway will be completely closed in this area and probably until November 21st, 2025. This measure is necessary in order to efficiently connect the new roundabout to the B75 in an easterly and westerly direction.
The closure also affects Todtglüsinger Straße (K57); this will also remain closed during construction work. However, road users can still use Buxtehuder Straße (L141). The full closure was originally planned for mid-October, but it was decided to bring the change forward in order to make the asphalting work more efficient. Hanno Schwerin, the project manager from the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport, explained that these adjustments should ultimately create more driving comfort for all road users. District newspaper reports that various utility companies are also active in parallel with the construction work and that their activities have been coordinated with the responsible authorities and companies.
Detours and impact on traffic
With the extensive construction sites, a large-scale diversion for regional traffic from the direction of Rotenburg has also been set up. From Tostedt, road users are directed via the L141 to Welle, then via the B3 to Trelder Berg and finally back to the B75. This diversion applies in both directions. Bahnhofstrasse is expected to be heavily used, which poses challenges for residents and commuters. For inner-city traffic, the bicycle could be the fastest solution for getting to your destination flexibly. District newspaper weekly indicates that road users must prepare for a temporary but significant change.
Investments in infrastructure
These structural measures are part of a larger program to improve the infrastructure in Lower Saxony. Olaf Lies, the Minister of Transport, recently presented the 2025 annual program for municipal road construction. On the basis of the Lower Saxony Municipal Transport Financing Act (NGVFG), 75 million euros in funding will be made available to enable investments totaling 110 million euros in the municipal road network. This is also important for projects such as the new roundabout in Tostedt. Of the 67 new projects released in the annual program, 36 are in the area of through towns, while the rest include the expansion and renovation of roads as well as the renewal of sidewalks and cycle paths Panoramic view of Lower Saxony.
The coming months will be turbulent for Tostedt and the surrounding area. While the new transport projects offer hope that flow will improve in the future, many will have to adapt to detours and adjustments. It remains to be seen how the residents will deal with the changes and what positive effects the new roundabout will ultimately bring.
