Police officer seriously injured: fight escalates in Schwerin!
What occurred in Münzstrasse on the night of June 14, 2025 is a dark example of violence that is increasingly exposed to police officers in Germany. At around 2:00 a.m., the officers were called to a brawl, in which 15 to 20 people were involved. When the police intervened to defuse the situation, they themselves became a target. A 28-year-old police officer experienced a painful moment: he was hit by a suspect on the head and briefly lost consciousness. Fortunately, a 27-year-old colleague was able to support him and ward off further attacks. The attackers quickly disappeared from the scene, while the police secured the area with additional forces and checked several groups. Two 22-year-old suspects were temporarily arrested, but they were released after the measures were completed. Now the investigation against several unknown perpetrators is underway for dangerous bodily harm and resistance to enforcement officers. The situation in Germany is anything but rosy. According to a report by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), around 290 police officers are exposed to violence every day. In 2023, almost 106,000 police officers were victims of violent acts, which represents an alarming increase of 10% compared to the previous year. The officials of assault and resistance acts, which mostly occur in arrests, are particularly affected. Even attempts from police officers are no longer uncommon. The unions are therefore calling for "hard consequences" for such attacks and have brought the creation of nationwide priorities into play. Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser speaks of "terrifying" numbers and announces sharper laws to ensure the security of the officials.
attacks on police officers
The incidents like in Münzstrasse are not the exception, but a disturbing rule. On average, there were about 40 attempts from police officers in 2023. According to the BKA, many of the attackers were male and often alcoholic. A worrying trend that affects not only the officials, but also society as a whole.
Similar incidents also occurred in Tübingen, where the public prosecutor raised charges against a 32-year-old man because he was said to have seriously injured two police officers at the main train station in September last year. One policeman was living in life -threatening injuries, while the other suffered a bite wound that had to be operated on. Swr.de documents how quickly such tragic locations can occur.
It is certain: Anyone who thinks that such attacks take place alone in large cities is wrong. The population must face reality and be aware that the frequency of these attacks is a challenge for the entire country. It remains to be seen whether the planned changes in the law will work.
