The federal police in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have recently stepped up their efforts to combat smugglers who bring people across the Polish border into Western Pomerania under dangerous conditions. These vehicles are considered a “means of crime” for the illegal smuggling of foreigners and can be punished with up to life imprisonment, especially if the smuggling causes the death of people. The Pasewalk Federal Police Inspectorate carries out the seizures, with the Neubrandenburg public prosecutor's office deciding on the whereabouts of the vehicles. Vehicle brands and recycling
A total of 14 different vehicle brands were identified, including popular models such as Skoda, Kia and Audi. The brands VW and Toyota are particularly frequently represented, each appearing four times, followed by Audi, Opel, Renault and Ford with three cases. What is strange is that the range of vehicles seized extends from vans to small cars. Recycling takes place after the process has been completed; Vehicles that are not auctioned or sold will be destroyed unless they are returned or confiscation is ordered. Accident vehicles will not be repaired before recycling.
The proceeds from the auctions, which are carried out via the platform www.zoll-auktion.de of the main customs office in Giessen, flow into the state treasury. However, there is currently no current information about the number and proceeds of the most recently auctioned vehicles, so the public will have to wait and see what sums can ultimately be generated.
