Schwerin in transition: New need for ideas for Paulshöhe and the traditional market!
The city of Schwerin is facing challenges and exciting events. A comprehensive reassessment of the Paulshöhe project is pending. The former sports grounds have not been used for football for years, and the original plans to build a Waldorf school have already been abandoned. The city is now looking for new ideas and alternatives for the area. An architecture competition is to be announced in 2024, although construction activity is not expected before 2028 Baltic Sea newspaper reported.
At the same time, the traditional Martensmarkt in Schwerin city center is just around the corner from November 7th to 9th. The market town grew from a custom that dates back to the 14th century. On Sunday at 2 p.m. the Martensmann from Lübeck will arrive and serve wine from his jug. An event that not only offers culinary delights, but also a lot of history.
Ballet and judicial cases
There is also exciting news in the cultural sector. The ballet piece “Once Upon A Time” celebrates its premiere at the Schwerin State Theater. This three-part performance explores major emotions such as love, hope and loss. Further performances will take place in Schwerin's M*Halle throughout November, and tickets are already available.
On a less positive note, a trial has begun in Schwerin against a young man who doused himself with gasoline on a tram and set himself on fire at the end of June. The man suffered serious injuries and has been in a special clinic ever since. The court is now examining whether he may be suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and should therefore be admitted to a psychiatric facility.
Talks and more
Another highlight for the region is the planned talk series in the Boltenhagen restaurant “Ostwind”. Conversations with prominent personalities such as Margot Käßmann and Franz Müntefering are scheduled until 2026. Beide sind bekannt dafür, spannende Einblicke in ihr Leben und ihre Erfahrungen nach der Karriere zu geben und werden den Gästen ein Zimmer mit Meerblick zur vereinbarten Gage zur Verfügung stellen.
In summary, it can be seen that Schwerin is confronted with both challenges and cultural highlights. From redeveloping much-needed spaces in the city to enriching events, there is something for everyone. If you don't take action now, you could be missing out!
